Sonoma United finished their season at the first ever Association Cup for Under 10’s. Held in Livermore on postage size fields, it took a game for all the teams to adjust to the field size. They tied the first game against Redwood San Carlos Riptide 0-0 with a strong game by keeper Sam Volker and a solid if confusing game for the rest of the team. The team pulled out a strong win in the second game against the Alameda Islanders. After going down 1-0 in the first half Arturo Fernandez snuck in a shot from an impossible angle after receiving his corner kick deflection right back on his feet.  In the second half Alanso Arias came to life to lift the team with 2 goals. First off a low corner from Fernandez. A great one touch through traffic that found the back of the net. Second off a cross from Asher Sutter where Alanso fought his way to the ball and poked it through a crowd. A great defensive game was played by Jose Rodriguez and Ezekiel Hermosillo and Max Gustafson was excellent in goal. The 3rd game put us against a very strong Placer Rocklin Trouble team. The score of 8-2 does not reflect the effort put in by the Sonoma team. Goals by Jose Rodriguez and Max Gustafson were the highlight of a game that got a little out of control because of the disappointment of some of the team members at realizing it was going to be the last game of their first select season.

This last game was no reflection on the rest of their season. We were not blown out in any other game during the season except by the Mustangs D-1 team. We were in 2nd place all season in our league behind a very strong Healdsburg team who went undefeated all season and but for a couple very bad breaks and a tie breaker would have been into some hardware.

We would like to thank the club and everyone who helped us navigate our first season. Especially Vikki Griggs-Demmin, Jim Van Sickle, Sam Honey. Jean François Ducarroz and Dan Sondheim and look forward to having a great season next year.
